A person of interest is in custody shortly after Chicago police released photos of the man sought in connection with the “targeted” killing of two men at Navy Pier earlier this week.
The CPD on Thursday published a trio of photos they say depict the person responsible for the shooting deaths of Lamont Johnson, 51, and Peter Jennings, 47, who were both killed in a nonpublic area of the popular tourist spot Tuesday afternoon.
A short time later, the department confirmed that a person of interest is in custody in connection with the shooting and that “the investigation remains ongoing at this time.”
Officials have said the shooting was a targeted attack carried out by a disgruntled ex-employee of a subcontractor working at Navy Pier. After the shooting, the man allegedly fled the area using public transportation.
According to police, the alleged shooter is a Black man listed at 6-foot-2-inches and 230 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. While authorities have said they know the man’s name, his identity has not been released.
The victims were fatally shot at around 1:15 p.m. after the suspect allegedly entered a loading dock and opened fire into an office area.
Anyone with information about the man in the photos is asked to contact Area Three Detectives at 312-744-8261. Anonymous tips can also be submitted at cpdtip.com.
