24 People Shot, 1 Killed, Over Weekend Across Chicago: Police
Two dozen people were shot, one fatally, in separate shootings over the weekend across Chicago.
According to Chicago Police Department data, 24 people were shot in 18 separate shooting incidents between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday.
The lone fatal shooting involved a 30-year-old man who was killed at around 4 a.m. Saturday morning in the 2500 block of West Monroe Street. Officers responded to a report of a person shot and found the victim with gunshot wounds to his chin and ankle. He was hospitalized in critical condition but died of his injuries.
Two more men were fatally early Monday morning.
A 23-year-old man was shot and killed in the 1000 block of West 77th Street just after midnight Monday morning. Police said he was pronounced dead on scene with a gunshot wound to the head.
Minutes later, a 20-year-old man was fatally shot during an attempted armed robbery in the 1600 block of East 95th Street. According to a witness, a man shot as the victim attempted to flee in his vehicle, striking him once in the head. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
