‘Immensely Invisible’ Details Investigation Into Sexual Assault Claims Inside ICE Detention Facilities

PBS NewsHour producer Zeba Warsi has been investigating sexual assault claims in Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities since 2021.

These facilities are also known as ICE detention facilities.

Warsi teamed up with Latino USA and Futuro Investigates to tell the stories of three migrant women who say they were sexually abused while in ICE detention when they were at their most vulnerable — in a medical setting.

The investigation reveals how ICE has done very little to stop it.

“This is not a problem that is isolated to one facility or one state,” Warsi said. “It seems to be a systemic issue that has emerged in our investigation. … There still is lack of accountability and that most of these complaints are not thoroughly being investigated and that is what we hope to change after our story.”
