They allegedly broke a front door and gained entry just after 12:30 a.m. Monday, but it was not immediately clear if anything was taken. Area Three detectives are investigating, but no one was in custody as of early Monday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Post Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service announced it is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those involved in the attempted burglary.

As of last week, burglaries in the 1st District — where the Thompson Center is located — were down 20% on the year, according to CPD data. Citywide, burglaries are up 5% compared to the same time last year.
