The seat of the state’s chief legal officer is in the hands of Illinois voters this November.

While a large part of the job for Illinois’ attorney general involves consumer protections, the election comes at a time when there are pivotal legal issues are playing out within the state and nationwide.

Politicians and legal officials are debating the state’s SAFE-T Act, which among other changes to the criminal justice system, eliminates cash bail.

And while Illinois is seen as an “island” for abortion access, the office could play a role in protecting traveling patients.
