8 Killed, 36 Wounded in Shootings Across Chicago Over the Weekend: Police

Eight people were killed and more than 30 others were wounded in shootings across the city of Chicago over the weekend.

According to Chicago Police Department data, 44 people were shot in 35 separate incidents between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday.

A 38-year-old man was fatally shot just after 10:30 p.m. Friday as he was driving westbound in the 500 block of West 95th Street. Police said the man was struck multiple times by someone firing a gun from the sidewalk.

A 62-year-old man was killed just after 11 p.m. Friday as he sat in his vehicle in the 800 block of West 71st Street. The man was at a stop sign when someone opened fire, striking the victim in the head. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Just after midnight Saturday morning, a 21-year-old man was killed as he stood on the sidewalk in the 5200 block of South Honore Street. He was struck in the back and later died.

A 19-year-old man died after he was found with a gunshot wound to his chest in the 3900 block of West Fillmore Street at approximately 5:15 a.m. Saturday. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Two men were shot, one fatally, in the 9400 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue at around 6 a.m. Saturday. A 28-year-old man was walking outside when an unknown person approached and fired shots, striking the victim in the left arm. He later died, and a second man suffered a graze wound to his head. He declined medical treatment, and police said he was uncooperative with investigators.

Five teens were shot in a possible drive-by shooting at around 12:20 a.m. Sunday in the 1800 block of West 71st Street. A 19-year-old woman was struck in the chest and killed, and a 17-year-old girl was hospitalized in serious condition with a gunshot wound to the chest. Three other male victims aged 17 to 19 were also wounded and hospitalized in fair condition.

Police said a 32-year-old man was killed following a verbal altercation with someone in the 1100 block of North Ridgeway Avenue at around 3:30 a.m. Sunday. During that confrontation, an unknown man pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots, striking the victim in the leg and chest.

A 16-year-old boy was fatally shot while outside Sunday afternoon in the 13100 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue. Police said the shooting occurred around 4 p.m. and no one is currently in custody.
