Entries are now open, through June 29, for the annual Bungalow Garden Contest, held by the Chicago Bungalow Association.

Owners of all types of bungalows — brick, stucco, wood frame, etc. — are eligible. The contest is divided into three categories: front garden, rear/side garden, and planter boxes and beds.

Association staff will whittle down submissions to 10 in each category, and the public will have the final say via online voting. Winners will be announced July 25 and will receive a cash prize of $500. New this year: Runners-up in each category will receive $200. Five randomly selected entrants will be given a free rain barrel.

For every eligible contest entry received, the association will donate $25 to South and West Side community gardens. Thanks to a high volume of entries in 2021, the organization donated a total of $3,000 to six gardens.

Membership in Chicago Bungalow Association is required to enter; joining is free
