17-Year-Old Among 6 People Killed Across Chicago Over The Weekend: Police

A 17-year-old boy who was fatally shot early Saturday morning in Longwood Manor was among six people killed over the weekend in Chicago.

According to the Chicago Police Department, 24 people were shot in 27 separate shooting incidents across the city between 6 p.m Friday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday.

A 29-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman were each shot just before 8 p.m. Friday following a fight with a group of people in the 1500 block of East 61st Street. The man was struck in the head and pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center, while the woman was shot in the hand and listed in good condition.

At around 10:30 p.m. Friday, a 27-year-old man was found unresponsive on the sidewalk in the 2000 block of West 35th Street. He had suffered a gunshot wound to the neck and was pronounced dead on scene.

Hours later at around 2:20 a.m. Saturday, a 17-year-old boy was standing in the driveway of a home in the 9500 block of South Sangamon Street when an unknown offender opened fire. The teen was struck once in the chest and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he died.

A 40-year-old man was killed in a drive-by shooting just before 3:30 a.m. Sunday in the 300 block of South Kilbourn Avenue. The man had been standing outside when someone inside a red vehicle shot at him, striking the man in the chest. He was pronounced dead at the Mount Sinai Medical Center.

Two people were found dead at around 8:30 p.m. Sunday inside an apartment in the 1000 block of West Montrose Avenue. Officers responded to the residence for a well-being check and found a 79-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman both dead inside a bedroom. The woman appeared to have been shot once in the head, police said, while the man had sustained trauma to his face.

According to city data, at least 660 people have been shot and 144 people have been killed in Chicago thus far in 2022.
