Those victims were among the 24 people who were shot between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday across the city. Two of those 24 victims were killed.

The mass shooting occurred at around 3:20 p.m. in the 7900 block of South Exchange Avenue. According to Police Superintendent David Brown, the men were standing outside a Little Caesars, when one or two vehicles drove by.

Surveillance video shows occupants from one of those vehicles talking to the men before opening fire on the group.

“We don’t know whether it was a targeted (shooting) or if there was an altercation during the conversation, so we’re running all that down,” Brown said during a press briefing Sunday.

The victims ranged in age from 31 to 63, according to police. Two of those victims were listed in critical condition Sunday, while the others were all in good condition.

It’s unclear how many people fired at the men, Brown said, but none of the victims returned fire.

Earlier on Sunday, at around 4:20 a.m., a 19-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were each shot in the 800 block of East 83rd Street. Police said an unknown suspect entered a location in that area and shot both victims in the face. The woman died, while the man remains in serious condition.

A 38-year-old man was also killed Sunday in the 600 block of South Paulina at around 3:45 p.m. According to police, he was standing on the street when he was shot in the chest by an unknown shooter. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

City data shows at least 446 people have been shot and 102 people have been killed in Chicago thus far in 2022.
