Instead, the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels will perform from noon to 1 p.m. on Aug. 21 and Aug. 22, Mayor Lori Lightfoot said. The team will practice from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 20.

Canceled by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Lightfoot announced the solo performance by the Blue Angels as part of efforts to reopen the city and allow summer events to take place as the number of confirmed cases and hospitalizations drops.

Lovers of airborne feats of skill and nerve will have the best view from beaches along Oak Street and Fullerton Avenue, officials said.

The scaled back event is one of many events transformed by the COVID-19 pandemic, including the Taste of Chicago, which will feature to-go meals designed to showcase local restaurants at pop-up events throughout the city for the second year in a row.
