Infectious Disease Doctor on Indoor Dining, COVID-19 Variants


Officials have announced an expansion of indoor dining and drinking in Chicago.

Bars and restaurants will now be allowed to operate at 40% of their normal capacity, or no more than 50 people.

“The positivity rate has come down significantly so I think there can be some opening,” said Dr. Susan Bleasdale, medical director of infection prevention and control at University of Illinois Health. “I think for an individual you have to make a decision over how are you going to utilize service, in that if you’re going to go dine out in a restaurant, you still may choose to dine with people you may have regular contact with.”

In other COVID-19 news, new virus strains have been detected in Illinois in recent weeks. And the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have released new guidelines for schools to reopen.
