The next 48 hours around Chicago are going to be a wild ride, weather-wise.
Snow, possibly starting as freezing rain, moves in Thursday, and will be at its heaviest between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. It’s likely to snarl both the evening commute and Friday morning’s, according to the National Weather Service. Accumulations in the Chicago region will range between 2 and 5 inches.
An arctic front follows, with temperatures plunging into the single digits, and wind chills possibly as low as 25 degrees below zero.
Here’s a timeline from the National Weather Service.
Very cold air will arrive behind tonight's Arctic cold front passage and will last through the weekend and likely continue through next week. With this comes an increasingly likely active period with accumulating snow threats parts of Saturday through Monday. #ilwx #inwx pic.twitter.com/P8aMddDBX7
