If you have plans to be out and about this weekend, best run your errands early Saturday, as heavy snow is set to hit the Chicago area in late afternoon and intensify rapidly, according to the National Weather Service.
The forecast calls for accumulations of six inches or more, starting between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., with gusting winds exacerbating conditions. A winter storm watch remains in effect for Chicago through 6 p.m. Sunday.
Members of the city's various volunteer shoveling brigades should take note: Meteorologists say the snow will be particularly wet and heavy, so take it slow and easy.
Let's talk weekend ...
Our confidence is high snow will move in late Saturday afternoon & early eve, picking up in intensity quickly after it onsets. With potential for significant amounts (6+"), snow-covered roads will occur & dangerous travel conditions possible. #ILwx #INwx pic.twitter.com/K5LgjbAlfD

Earlier in the week, O'Hare recorded six inches of snow, the first time the city's notched a half-foot or more since November 2018. It appears we're making up for lost time.
