The 14th Congressional District, which stretches from western and northern suburbs of Chicago to the Wisconsin border, pits state Sen. Jim Oberweis, a veteran Republican campaigner, against incumbent first-term Rep. Lauren Underwood, a Democrat.
Oberweis has run for office frequently, including twice for Senate as well as for governor and state office. He’s currently the state senator from North Aurora.
Underwood, the youngest African American woman to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives, raised more than four times as much money as Oberweis in the third quarter, according to financial disclosure reports.
The election forecasting website FiveThirtyEight is currently predicting a nine-point win for Underwood.
Oberweis joins “Chicago Tonight” for a candidate forum; Underwood declined our invitation.
