For the first time in decades, a candidate with a name other than Lipinski will represent Illinois’ 3rd Congressional District in Congress. The district covers parts of the Southwest Side and some west and southwest suburbs.
U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski – who has held the seat since 2005 and replaced his father, who entered Congress in 1983 – was defeated in the Democratic primary.
Joining “Chicago Tonight” for a candidate forum are the two candidates vying to replace him:
Republican Mike Fricilone, who has served on the Will County Board since 2012 and is an executive director of an office furniture business.
Democrat Marie Newman, a small business owner and anti-bullying advocate. After an unsuccessful run in 2018, she defeated Lipinski in the March primary.
