Speakers at the Republican National Convention this week focused sharply on a law-and-order message, casting doubt on the safety of the U.S. if Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is elected. Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris on Thursday fired back at President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.

The extradition hearing for Kyle Rittenhouse, the 17-year-old from Illinois who is charged in the killing of two protesters on the streets of Kenosha following the police shooting of Jacob Blake, has been delayed for a month.

Blake was shot seven times the back Sunday, sparking a week of unrest in the Wisconsin city just over the border from Chicago. The shooting left him paralyzed from the waist down — an attorney for the family said earlier this week it would “take a miracle” for him to walk again.
