Reporters will be required to produce written work for the WTTW News website. This is not a broadcast opportunity.

Freelance reporters will be responsible for pitching, reporting and writing timely, compelling stories relevant to a local audience, including but not limited to: crime, public health, politics, education, environment, business, social issues and community.

Compensation will be provided as a set day rate on Saturday or Sunday, for which we expect 2-3 completed stories. Reporters will work with the WTTW News digital editor and the “Chicago Tonight” senior supervising producer on story selection, execution, editing and production.

For consideration, candidates must:

— Have excellent news judgement and a familiarity with local news topics;
— Provide links to recently published news articles that include their byline;
— Be familiar with and able to follow AP style;
— Live in the Chicago area.

We encourage candidates of all backgrounds to apply, including those from historically underserved communities in the Chicago area, Black and Brown communities, immigrant communities, the LGBTQ community, reporters who gained relevant professional experience through nontraditional educational channels, and others.

To request consideration, please send a cover letter, resume and links to at least three recently published articles with your byline to [email protected] and [email protected]. Please put “Freelancer” in the subject line.
