The race in the redrawn 2nd District, which extends from the South Side to Kankakee, is one of the most contentious races this primary season. The Democratic race is the most fierce, with Incumbent Jesse Jackson, Jr. against former U.S. Rep. Debbie Halvorson. Rep. Jackson, Jr. has held office for 18 years. As a former congresswoman, Halvorson is said to be the first real competition Jackson has faced since taking office. The district has been held by a Black congressman for three decades. |
