March weather madness continued Monday with record-setting warmth followed by thunderstorms, and a cool down on the way.
According to the National Weather Service, the temperature hit 81 degrees at O’Hare Airport — Chicago’s official weather station — breaking the previous record high for March 30 of 79 degrees set in 1986.
The balmy weather is expected to continue through late Tuesday afternoon, but temperatures will drop significantly in the early evening along with the arrival of potentially severe storms.
The forecast from the weather service calls for a “period of active weather” resulting in “several waves of showers and storms this week.” Heavy rainfall and localized flooding are likely.
So far, the forecast for Easter Sunday is looking dry, but chilly.
