The Bears Beat the Rams for the 1986 NFC Championship. Relive the Sights and Sounds of That Game
It’s been almost 40 years since the Chicago Bears last won the Super Bowl, and that 1985 Bears team is still the most beloved and remembered Bears squad of all time.
Forty years ago this week, on Jan. 12, 1986, the team played in the NFC Championship Game at (old) Soldier Field. The opponent: the Los Angeles Rams. Led by quarterback Dieter Brock, who spent that single season in the NFL after a stellar career in the Canadian Football League, and Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson, the poor Angelinos had no chance.
The fearsome Bears pummeled the Rams by a score of 24-0, sending the Monsters of the Midway to Super Bowl XX. The game also marked the last appearance of the Honey Bears, the team’s cheerleading squad, at Soldier Field.
This weekend marks the first playoff matchup between the Bears and Rams since that fateful winter day in 1986. Here, we take a look back at the “Chicago Tonight” coverage of the sights and sounds of one of the most important Bears wins in franchise history.
The Bears are set to take on the Rams this Sunday at 5:30 p.m. in the NFC Divisional playoff game.
