The food hall Time Out Market Chicago in Fulton Market will be closing next week, the company announced Wednesday. The food hall’s last day will be Friday, Jan. 23.
Inconsistent foot traffic due to hybrid work along with increased operating costs led to the closure, Time Out Market CEO Michael Marlay said in an announcement shared on Time Out’s website.
“Following the pandemic, we have seen the Chicago Market recover and grow, and we have focused on initiatives driving further growth; however, footfall until today remains inconsistent in the area due to ongoing hybrid working and in addition, operating costs have increased—all of which prevents consistent profitability,” Marlay said in a statement.
The food hall, first opened in 2019, was created by the media company Time Out to “bring together the best of the city under one roof.” The 50,000-square-foot food hall houses more than 15 food vendors, three bars and a rooftop terrace across three floors, according to its website.
Current vendors include Hooligan, Craft & Carvery, Urbanbelly, Bar Goa, Qing Xiang Yuan Mini, Vitasana, Molly’s Cupcakes, Tacotlan, JoJo’s ShakeBAR, Libanais and more.
Time Out Market also announced the closure of its Boston location on Wednesday, citing identical reasons.
Time Out Market has about a dozen locations in cities internationally and in the U.S, including in New York City with a Union Square location that opened in the fall. The company also previously shared plans of opening more locations in Vancouver, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh and Prague. The first location opened in Lisbon in 2014.
The Time Out Chicago website and social media channels will continue to operate, according to the company.
