A fundraiser has been launched for a 14-year-old boy who was killed in a downtown shooting Friday night in the same area where seven other teens were wounded in a mass shooting.

The victim, identified as Armani Floyd, was killed just after 10:30 p.m. Friday when he and another person were shot in the 100 Block of South Dearborn.

“He leaves behind a loving mother and inseparable sister,” Floyd’s family wrote on their GoFundMe page. “We come to you with heavy hearts asking for anything you can spare to give him a proper celebration of life.”

According to Chicago police, officers responding to Dearborn found two people who had been struck by gunfire. Floyd had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at a local hospital, while the second victim — an 18-year-old man who was struck in the leg — was hospitalized in serious condition.

About an hour earlier, seven teens were shot in a separate mass shooting nearby in the 100 block of North State Street.

In that incident, CPD officers were on patrol when they observed a large group on the sidewalk and then heard gunshots being fired. Police discovered seven people had sustained gunshot wounds in the shooting — all teens between the ages of 13-17.

Each victim survived and was hospitalized in fair to good condition.

As of Monday, police have not announced charges against anyone in either shooting.

According to the Chicago Tribune, both shooting incidents occurred during a “teen takeover” downtown Friday.

Ald. Brian Hopkins (2nd Ward) said on social media there were “300 juveniles rioting in the Loop” and that multiple police officers had been attacked and injured with mace and stun guns.

“Incidents like last night set us back as a city and evoke fear,” Mayor Brandon Johnson said over the weekend. “Our young people have to understand that they should not attend these unauthorized events … they are extremely dangerous due to the number of individuals that may be carrying weapons.”
