Enjoy an extra hour of sleep this weekend as clocks “fall back” an hour with the return to standard time.
The official time change occurs at 2 a.m. Sunday morning.
Standard time runs from the first Sunday in November to the second Sunday in March, when clocks spring forward for daylight saving time.
The hour gained over the weekend might feel good in the moment, but it means the sun will now set before most people leave work at night.
For years, sleep scientists and politicians have debated whether the U.S. should skip the twice-yearly time changes. So far, there’s a lack of consensus on whether the country should stick with standard or daylight saving time.
No legislation has been passed at the national level to create a permanent time, so here we are again, the first Sunday in November, falling back.
