6 Killed by Gunfire in Chicago Over Labor Day Weekend, Another 4 Dead in CTA Blue Line Shooting in Forest Park

Six people were killed by gunfire across Chicago over the Labor Day holiday weekend, and four more are dead after a fatal shooting in Forest Park on a CTA Blue Line train.
According to preliminary Chicago Police Department data, 29 people were shot in 27 separate incidents between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Monday. In addition to the six people who were fatally shot, a seventh person died of head trauma.
The victims included three men — ages 23, 26 and 28 — who were shot Monday in the West Pullman neighborhood at approximately 5:30 p.m., one of them fatally, according to police.
The incident occurred in the 12300 block of South Emerald Avenue, with the 28-year-old struck multiple times. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition and later died. The 23-year-old is in critical condition at Roseland Hospital and the 26-year-old is in good condition at Ingles Hospital. No offenders are in custody.
A 49-year-old woman was shot in the West Pullman neighborhood at approximately 9:30 p.m. Friday. An unidentified man driving a dark colored SUV fired at the woman and a 38-year-old man sitting on a porch in the 11800 block of South Indiana Avenue. She was wounded in the face and arm and taken to Roseland Hospital in critical condition where she was pronounced dead. The 38-year-old, a concealed carry license holder, returned fire but was not injured.
Shortly after midnight on Saturday, a 58-year-old woman was shot in North Lawndale while sitting inside a vehicle at a gathering in the 3900 block of West Ogden Avenue. She was struck in the neck and taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition where she later died.
An unidentified man was shot in the South Chicago neighborhood while sitting in a vehicle in the 2900 block of East 89th Street at approximately 8:30 a.m. Saturday. He suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Early Sunday morning, at approximately 4 a.m., a 36-year-old man was shot in the face while driving through Bridgeport in the 3100 block of South Morgan Street. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition and later died.
A 35-year-old woman was shot Monday evening in the Washington Park neighborhood while driving in the 200 block of East 57th Street. The woman was struck short after 5 p.m. by an unknown offender and was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition where she later died.
As previously reported, a shooting on a Blue Line train in Forest Park on Labor Day morning left four people dead, police said.
Three people were pronounced dead at the Forest Park station, an above-ground stop on the Chicago Transit Authority’s Blue Line. The fourth victim died at a hospital.
The suspect was subsequently arrested on a train on a different route, Forest Park police said.
