Candidate Statement

My name is Dr. Tom Tarter.

I have focused my career on serving the people of Illinois as a nationally-recognized cancer surgeon, medical professor, and now as a Republican candidate for United States Senator.

Illinois needs a senator who will support President Trump and represent the values of the citizens of Illinois. I do not feel represented in the U.S. Senate. As I travel the state, I hear the same from many other Illinoisans who are frustrated with politicians like Dick Durbin who represent the narrow interests of liberal Chicago rather than standing up for our values.

I will fight to keep Americans safe and build the wall. I’ve seen the devastation caused by illegal immigration firsthand while doing my medical training at the County Hospital of Los Angeles. I performed surgeries on many illegal immigrant gang members who had been shot or stabbed among the chaos and poverty plaguing the community.

We need to stop illegal immigration and keep our neighborhoods safe.

I will also stop Dick Durbin and his fellow radical left-wing Democrats from socialized medicine with a single-payer system, which would outlaw private insurance plans and decrease the quality of our medical care.

Instead, I will ensure Americans continue to have access to the best medical care in the world while instituting commonsense policies that make health care and health insurance more affordable.

I will also help President Trump continue to grow our booming economy with low taxes and regulatory relief. Despite Dick Durbin’s opposition, President Trump is succeeding with the economy, making us energy independent, strengthening our military, and making trade deals that put Americans first.

Unlike Dick Durbin, I’m not a career politician. I will stand with President Trump against socialism. We’ll fight against the entrenched special interests and get the job done for all Illinoisans.

Join me in helping President Trump by replacing Dick Durbin in 2020.

Candidate Q&A

Why are you running?

I’m running for U.S. Senate because I don’t feel represented in Washington. As I travel the state, I hear the same from many other Illinoisans frustrated with politicians like Dick Durbin who represent the narrow interests of liberal Chicago rather than standing up for our values. I will represent all of Illinois. I’ll give a voice to Central and Southern Illinois for the first time in decades, standing for our values and fighting against the efforts of liberal Chicago politicians who seek to dictate how we should live our lives.

While Dick Durbin prioritizes taxpayer-funded benefits for illegal immigrants, I will fight to keep Americans safe and build the wall. I’ve seen the devastation caused by illegal immigration firsthand while doing my medical training at the County Hospital of Los Angeles. I performed surgeries on many illegal immigrant gang members who had been shot or stabbed among the chaos and poverty plaguing the community.

That’s why we need to stop illegal immigration by building the wall, properly equipping Border Patrol, and compelling our local law enforcement to cooperate with ICE and deport illegal immigrants with criminal records. This will keep our neighborhoods safe and reserve taxpayer dollars for supporting American citizens in need rather than illegal immigrants.

As a doctor for nearly thirty years, I will stop Dick Durbin and his fellow radical left-wing Democrats from socializing medicine with a single-payer system. Their plan would outlaw private insurance plans, decrease the quality of medical care, and lead to a loss of providers, long wait times, extreme rationing of care, and a harmful decline in research and innovation. Instead, I will ensure Americans continue to have access to the best medical care in the world while instituting commonsense policies that make health care and health insurance more affordable.

I will also help President Trump continue to grow our booming economy. Despite Dick Durbin’s opposition, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is above 3%, the unemployment rate is below 4%, the U.S. leads the world in wage and salary growth, and hundreds of billions in profits have come back from overseas. President Trump is accomplishing conservative and Republican goals of lower taxes, energy independence, a strong military, and trade deals that put Americans first. I support making the tax cuts permanent, cutting spending to reduce the national debt, reducing the regulatory burden on small businesses, and balancing our budget.

I’m in this fight because I know it’s where I need to be. Join me in ridding Washington of
career politicians, starting by defeating Dick Durbin in 2020. I will stand with President
Trump against socialism. We’ll fight against the entrenched special interests and get the
job done for everyday Illinoisans.

What is your vision for this office?

First and foremost, I will represent all of Illinois, not just liberal Chicago and I’m running for U.S. Senate because I don’t feel represented in Washington. As I travel the state, I hear the same from many other Illinoisans frustrated with Chicago politicians. Dick Durbin may have once represented us decades ago, but for many years he’s represented the narrow interests of liberal Chicago rather than standing up for our values. He’s focused more on providing taxpayer-funded benefits to illegal immigrants than helping working people, and his push for socialized medicine will cost his constituents their excellent medical care.

I will give a voice to Central and Southern Illinois for the first time in decades. I will stand for our values, fighting against the efforts of liberal Chicago politicians who seek to dictate how we should live our lives.

My second priority is to keep Americans safe and build the wall. One of government’s primary functions is to keep its citizens safe, and they haven’t been keeping us safe. That’s why we need to stop illegal immigration by building the wall and giving Border Patrol the resources they need, including modern technology and additional safety officers. We need local law enforcement to cooperate with ICE and deport illegal immigrants with criminal records so we can keep our neighborhoods safe. And we need a legal immigration reform bill that replaces the current family-based immigration system with a merit-based system.

For those who want to come to this country, I strongly support them entering America through the front door. Apply, come to America, get a green card, then earn your United States citizenship. Legal immigrants are welcome in our country as productive citizens who add to the fabric of our society. Illegal immigrants, on the other hand, are a drain on our health care, educational, and social service systems, taking advantage of services the American people pay for that are supposed to be used to support American citizens in need.

Lastly, I will stand with President Trump against socialism. I support our President because he is fighting against career politicians, entrenched special interests, and a hostile press to get the job done for everyday Americans, regardless of the political consequences. Extreme liberals like Dick Durbin and Nancy Pelosi hate President Trump because he’s not a politician and fights against their socialist policies. I will join that fight against the liberal policies that would destroy our economy and health care system, eliminate personal liberties, and make Americans unsafe.

I will also help President Trump continue to grow our booming economy. Despite Durbin’s opposition, the 2017 tax cuts are boosting our economy. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is above 3%, despite Obama’s claims this was impossible, and the unemployment rate is below 4%, including the lowest unemployment rate ever recorded among African Americans, Hispanics, and women. The U.S. leads the world in wage and salary growth, and hundreds of billions in profits have come back from overseas. I support making the tax cuts permanent, cutting spending to reduce the national debt, reducing the regulatory burden on small businesses, and balancing our budget.

What do you think is the most pressing issue facing your constituents and how do you plan on addressing it?

As a doctor for nearly thirty years, and what gave me the passion to run this election
against Dick Durbin is what he and his fellow radical left-wing Democrats want to do for
our healthcare system. Our country cannot afford socialized medicine with a singlepayer
system and if elected, I will fight to stop it. Their plan would outlaw private insurance plans and lead to a decrease in the quality of medical care, loss of providers, long wait times, extreme rationing of care, and a harmful decline in research and innovation.

Instead, I will ensure Americans continue to have access to the best medical care in the world while instituting commonsense policies that make health care and insurance more affordable. This includes price and outcome transparency, insurance sold across state lines, expanded Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), regulatory relief on providers and hospitals, malpractice tort reform, small business insurance pools, low cost short-term insurance plans, and primary care membership plans.
