Candidate Statement

Hello, My name is Dr. Robert Marshall. I am a physician with an office in Berwyn and a father of four.

I was elected to the Board of Trustees in Burr Ridge. I am running for U.S. Senate in the Republican Primary to replace Dick Durbin.

I am a Vietnam veteran and the main reason I am running for this office is to oppose all of these wars in the Mideast. I believe we are making the same mistake we did in Vietnam and it is time for us to withdraw all of our troops from these various wars.

I believe we should eliminate the Progressive Income Tax.

Why should you vote for me over the other candidates?

I am not a lawyer. Lawyers have far too much political power in this country. If I am elected, I will nominate non-lawyers to the U. S. Supreme Court.

On social issues, I take a moderate stance. I believe abortion should remain legal up to 24 weeks but I am opposed to late term abortions and to tax payer funding of abortions.

I am for legalized marijuana. I believe that the profits from marijuana should be rebated directly back to property owners. I believe that gay people should be treated on an equal basis. They should be able to marry and adopt children and they should be able to attain employment or rental property on an equal basis.

I am for the ERA and believe that women should be paid equally with men for equal jobs.

I believe that women should be believed in cases of sexual harassment.

As you can see from my platform, I am conservative on taxation but moderate on social issues. This is the key for the Republican Party to win on a state-wide race. Our party's stances on social issues are decades behind the times and as a result, our party has been almost completely wiped out throughout Illinois. It is time for our party to drag itself into the 21st Century.

My name is Dr. Robert Marshall, I ask for your vote for U.S. Senate in the Republican Primary so that we can finally rid ourselves of Senator Durbin.

Thank you.

Candidate Q&A

Why are you running?

I am a Vietnam veteran and the main reason I am running for this office is to oppose all of these wars in the Mideast. I believe we are making the same mistake we did in Vietnam and it is time for us to withdraw all of our troops from these various wars.

What is your vision for this office?

I am conservative on taxation and fiscal matters but moderate on social issues. I would use this office to further my goals in these two areas. I am opposed to the Progressive Income Tax. We should have a flat federal income tax. I agree with President Trump in finishing the wall along the Southern Border. We should have more conservative policies on Immigration.

I believe that abortion should remain legal up to 24 weeks but I am opposed to late term abortions and tax payer funding. I am in favor of legalized marijuana.

On LGBT issues, I believe that gay people should be treated on an equal basis. They should be allowed to marry or adopt children and they should be able to attain employment or rental property on an equal basis with the rest of us.

What do you think is the most pressing issue facing your constituents and how do you plan on addressing it?

The horrible economic condition of our state is obviously the most pressing issue. All taxes are extremely too high, especially property taxes. People are leaving the state by the hundreds of thousands.

With my plan, the State of Illinois and its Constitution would be dissolved. We would divide Illinois up into smaller states, either two or three states. Each state would be entirely new with a new Constitution. All pensions could be renegotiated. All of our debts and other obligations would all be renegotiated to lessen the burden upon the taxpayers throughout the state.

This plan would increase the political power of the people of the territory of Illinois by increasing the number of Senators who represent us and also increase the number of voters in the Electoral College.
