Former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan — once known as the Velvet Hammer — caps a 50-year political career with 7.5-year prison sentence and a $2.5 million fine.

Prior to sentencing, U.S. District Judge John Blakey called Madigan’s trial testimony “a nauseating display … of perjury and evasion.”
