Bobbi Brown and her nearly billion-dollar brand has always been synonymous with a more natural-looking, effortless style.
Brown founded her first company and namesake, Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, at a time when the industry rarely catered to a large array of skin tones. Her approach offered shades for women of every color, helping to establish a standard for inclusivity.
“It’s always been important to me that no matter what your age or your skin color, that when you came to us we had colors for you,” Brown told WTTW News. “For me, it wasn’t a trend. It’s not a fad. It’s the way it has to be.”
Brown’s commitment to natural beauty and inclusivity lives on through her latest venture, Jones Road Beauty. Launched in 2020 amid the pandemic, Jones Road combines clean beauty with universal appeal. The brand is geared toward all ages, skin types, and tones — underscoring Brown’s belief that makeup should enhance rather than alter.
“I don’t believe in taking a face and trying to change it,” said Brown. “I believe in taking a face and enhancing it. I don’t think anyone needs to contour their face. They just need to use makeup to bring out the special things in their face.”
The world has evolved a lot in the decades between Bobbi Brown Cosmetics and Jones Road Beauty, and Brown has embraced this shift and moved in line with the times. Her philosophy on aging is to embrace the marks of experience.
“Getting older is great, and you get so many great things with it,” she said. “You get your power; you get your voice; you get your knowledge. So what if you get a few lines and things you didn’t have before? It doesn’t matter. My message to women is to always try to be the best version of yourself.”
Jones Road Beauty celebrates their fourth anniversary tomorrow with Brown hosting a “Beauty Block Party” outside their store in Bucktown, 1655 N Damen Ave., from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
