The Chicago Department of Public Health is hosting a series of vaccination clinics over the next several months for residents to receive updated COVID-19 vaccine and flu shots.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends people ages 6 months and older get updated COVID-19 and flu vaccinations to get the best protection from current circulating COVID-19 variant strains and flu viruses.

“Staying up to date with your COVID-19, flu and RSV vaccines is the number one way to stay healthy as we head into the colder months,” CDPH Commissioner Dr. Olusimbo “Simbo” Ige said in a statement. “The weather is mild now, but indoor weather is just around the corner, and we know that is when respiratory viruses begin to circulate more widely.”

Where to Find COVID-19 and Flu Vaccines

People with private health insurance or with Medicaid or Medicare coverage are encouraged to visit a pharmacy or doctor’s office to get their updated shots.

Private insurance, Medicaid and Medicare will likely cover the cost of vaccination as long as people go to an in-network provider or pharmacy. If you’re unsure about which providers are in-network, call your health insurance company beforehand to avoid out-of-network charges.

Those without health insurance can receive no-cost vaccines from one of three CDPH standing immunization clinics, or one of dozens of CDPH-sponsored pop-up clinics. A full list of vaccination events and registration details can be found on CDPH’s vaccine clinics calendar.
