Now That the DNC’s Over, Here’s When Streets Will Reopen Around the United Center and McCormick Place
The Democrats’ party is officially over and Chicagoans are getting their streets back, but it will take a couple of days to fully clear all of the barriers put in place around the United Center and McCormick Place for the Democratic National Convention.
Here’s the reopening timeline released by city officials, with the caveat that times are subject to change. Motorists should be prepared for temporary street closures while equipment is removed.
McCormick Place perimeter:
— Teardown of the security perimeter started Thursday evening, as all DNC activity shifted to the United Center.
— 3 p.m. Friday: All major intersections will be clear; the I-55 ramp will be open.
— 6 a.m. Sunday: Cermak from Michigan to Indiana will be clear.
— 8 a.m. Sunday: Entire area open; 75% of equipment cleared off curbs.
— 6 a.m. Monday: Everything open and curbs completely cleared.
United Center perimeter:
— Teardown underway as of 1 a.m. Friday.
— noon, Saturday: Damen, Wood and Adams open, if possible. Most major intersections cleared.
— Saturday (no time listed): Most major inter
— 11:59 p.m. Sunday: Entire area open, 75% of equipment cleared off curbs.
— 11:59 p.m. Monday: Everything open and curbs completely cleared.
