Not so fast, pumpkin spice.
After a string of fall-like days, the real August is showing up this weekend to reclaim summer. Temperatures will climb back into the 90s by Sunday, which will feel more like 100 to 105 degrees after factoring in the high humidity, according to the National Weather Service.
The sticky, steamy weather will stick around at least through Tuesday, making for a scorching start to the 2024-25 school year as Chicago Public Schools students head back to the classroom on Monday.
Don’t expect things to cool off at night, the weather service said. Muggy conditions will persist even after sundown, especially in Chicago.
Folks looking for ways to beat the heat should check first before heading to a Chicago Park District pool. The district is pulling the plug on pools on a rolling schedule; nearly 30 outdoor pools were shuttered for the season as of Aug. 11 and more are closing Sunday. (Click here for a map.)
