A water boil order has been lifted as of Thursday morning for residents of several Chicago South Side neighborhoods.

Affected areas include parts of Beverly, Morgan Park and Auburn Gresham, where people have been unable to use tap water for drinking or cooking since Tuesday night following an outage at the Roseland Pumping Station.

Residents should follow the Department of Water Management’s “intensive flushing” instructions, including running cold water from all faucets and taps for 30 minutes.

The boil order was prompted by a leak on a high-pressure water main at the pumping station. Crews brought it back online, but “out of an abundance of caution and in consultation with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency,” the Chicago Department of Water Management issued a boil order for drinking and cooking water.

The order applied to buildings and homes located east of Sacramento Avenue, north of 119th Street, west of I-57, south of 87th Street, and southwest of Beverly Avenue. The same area was placed under a boil order in 2021, also due to an issue at the Roseland Pumping Station.
