All of the district’s 77 outdoor and indoor pools are expected to be open six days a week from June 17 through Sept. 2. Hours are generally 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., same as the city’s lakefront beaches and Humboldt Park’s inland beach, also reopening Monday after a four-year hiatus. Click here for pool schedules.

Splash pads and water playgrounds are also now open.

The National Weather Service is forecasting hot and humid conditions all week, with temperatures soaring to the upper 90s and lows only dipping to the 70s and 80s. In some parts of the Chicago metro area, the daytime heat index could top 100 degrees.

Beach and boating season also brings reminders of how dangerous Lake Michigan’s waters can be, with two boaters reported missing over the weekend.

The lake’s fresh water lacks the buoyancy of salt water, and the short interval between waves can exhaust even experienced swimmers. Here are tips on how to stay safe.
