8 People Killed by Gunfire Over Weekend Across Chicago: Police

An 18-year-old woman fatally shot as she sat in a vehicle early Sunday morning in West Englewood was among eight people killed by gunfire over the weekend across Chicago.
According to Chicago Police Department figures, 44 people were shot in 39 separate incidents recorded between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday.
A 38-year-old man was fatally shot in the 5800 block of West Division Street at around 9:45 p.m. Friday. Officers responding to a shots fired call in the area found the man in a nearby alley where he’d been shot twice in the neck and twice in the chest. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
A 21-year-old man died after he was shot in the 6600 block of South Rhodes Avenue at around 5:15 p.m. Saturday. Police said he was standing near the sidewalk when he was struck in the chest by gunfire. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
A 31-year-old man was killed in the 2900 block of West Devon Avenue at around 9:45 p.m. Saturday. He was walking in that area when an unknown person approached and opened fire, striking the victim in the back.
An 18-year-old woman was fatally shot at around 3:30 a.m. Sunday in the 1300 block of West 72nd Street. She was sitting in a parked vehicle when she was struck by gunfire in the head. She was taken to a local hospital where she later died.
A 36-year-old man was killed in a shooting in the 700 block of West 66th Place at around 8:30 a.m. Sunday. Police said he was found in an alley with multiple gunshot wounds about the body. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
A 27-year-old man was fatally shot while driving in the 12100 block of South Halsted Street just before 6 p.m. Sunday. The victim was driving southbound when someone inside a black sedan fired shots, striking the victim multiple times. He then crashed into a parked vehicle, which caused his own vehicle to catch fire.
A 26-year-old man was shot and killed in the 11500 block of South State Street at around 8 p.m. Sunday. Police found the victim on the ground between two houses with multiple gunshot wounds. A witness told officers they saw two unknown men exit a black sedan and shoot at the victim before fleeing the scene.
Two men were shot, one fatally, in the 3900 block of West 31st Street at around 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Police responding to a report of shots fired found a 21-year-old who had been shot and later died of his injuries. A 35-year-old man had also been shot and was hospitalized in critical condition. Investigators believe the deceased victim may have exchanged gunfire with an unidentified person, who fled the scene on foot.
