7 People Killed in Weekend Shootings Across Chicago: Police

Seven people were killed by gunfire over the weekend across Chicago.

According to Chicago Police Department figures, 31 people were shot in 24 separate shootings between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday.

A 49-year-old man was killed in the 3000 block of West Warren Boulevard at around midnight Saturday. The victim was standing on the street when someone exited a vehicle and fired shots, striking him in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 27-year old man was killed and a woman injured in a shooting in the 1700 block of West 18th Place. Police found both victims suffering from gunshots in that area at around 9:15 p.m. Saturday. The man later died at a local hospital. The woman was listed in fair condition.

An unidentified man was fatally shot in the 2300 Block of West 59th Street just before 3:30 a.m. Sunday. Officers responding to a report of shots fired found the man unresponsive at that location. He had been traveling in a car when he was shot through the front windshield and killed.

A 51-year-old man was fatally shot in the 6800 block of South Prairie Avenue at around 3:15 p.m. Sunday. Police said he was struck in the legs and chest by gunfire. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Three men were shot, one fatally, in the 7900 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue just after 5 p.m. Sunday. They were standing near the sidewalk in that area when four people approached, produced handguns and fired shots. A 36-year-old man was killed and the two other victims were hospitalized in good condition.
