At least seven people were killed by gunfire over the Easter holiday weekend in Chicago, including two teens who were involved in a pair of mass shootings Sunday.
According to the Chicago Police Department, at least 32 people were shot between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday. That total included two separate mass shootings that involved nine total victims.
A 29-year-old man was fatally shot at around 9:15 p.m. Friday in the 800 block of West 87th Street. He was standing in a parking lot in that area when a silver sedan approached and someone inside fired multiple shots. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 41-year-old man was killed inside his home in the 8200 block of South Elizabeth Street just before 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Police said he was sitting in the residence when a known person approached and shot him multiple times. He was hospitalized in grave condition and later died.
A 37-year-old man died after he was shot in the 8200 block of South Cottage Grove at around 3 p.m. Saturday. He was standing on the street when he was shot multiple times and died.
A 19-year-old man was fatally shot outside a home in the 6700 block of South Cornell Avenue at around 12:45 a.m. Sunday. According to police, a Jeep approached and someone inside fired shots. The victim was struck once in the back and was initially hospitalized in good condition, but later died.
Minutes later at around 1 a.m., a 19-year-old woman was killed and four others were wounded in a shooting in the 5300 block of West Madison Street. Police said the victims were inside a business in that area when an unknown person fired multiple shots and fled.
The 19-year-old victim was struck in the head and died on scene. Two other women, ages 19 and 20, were hospitalized in good condition. A 17-year-old girl was stuck in the leg and hospitalized in critical condition and a 16-year-old was struck in the toe and hospitalized in good condition.
A 32-year-old man was killed in the 8200 block of South Ashland Avenue at around 4:30 a.m. Sunday. He was driving in that area when he was struck by gunfire and crashed his vehicle into a parked semi truck.
A 16–year-old boy was killed and three men were injured in a shooting in the 400 block of North Lavergne Avenue at around 3 p.m. Sunday. The group was standing outside on a sidewalk when police said two men exited a vehicle and opened fire.
The boy was struck in the head and later died at a local hospital. The three other victims were all hospitalized in good condition.
