Escape the winter weather with a pair of flower shows. “Silver: Celebrating 25” shines a spotlight on the Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance; expect silver foliage, pink and red poinsettias and winter flowers. “Wintergreen” at the Lincoln Park Conservatory features a giant tree silhouette lit by thousands of green LEDs; you’ll see gold, green and orange poinsettias, plus salvias, violas and flowing lime ipomea with silver dichondra.

2. Stroll
The ninth annual Winter Walk on Wilson includes live performances, warm beverages and menu samples from local businesses. A pop-up holiday market and photo ops with Panda Claus round it out.

3. Shine
Help spread holiday cheer at My Block My Hood My City’s sixth annual Be a Part of the Light community lighting event. Last year the organization decorated nearly 500 poles and more than 500 homes. The goal is to exceed those numbers while beautifying Martin Luther King Drive.

4. Frolic
The Hyde Park Holly-Day Celebration delivers a bevy of family-friendly activities. You’ll find a screening of “Wish,” an ice carving demonstration, holiday crafts (with Kwanzaa, Hanukkah and winter themes), a book giveaway and dance performances.

5. Appreciate
From paintings to quilts, Faith Ringgold has been making art of all kinds for more than 60 years. The new exhibition “American People” is the first solo retrospective of the artist in Chicago. Learn more about the show from WTTW News reporter Marc Vitali.
