Applications Open for Miller-Perez Scholarship for Latino and Immigrant Students

Attention high school seniors and college students: Applications are now open for the Miller-Perez Family Scholarship at the nonprofit Latinos Progresando. The scholarship offers financial support to Latinos and immigrants pursuing or already enrolled in college.

The scholarship honors Angela Perez Miller, an educator and advocate for bilingual education in Chicago, and her son Dion Miller Perez, who was deeply involved in his community of Marshall Square. Five $2,000 scholarships are being awarded.

“Latinos Progresando hopes that this opportunity will allow students to continue and further their education — and our hope is also that with that commitment to community service, that they will give back to their community,” said Carmen Guzman, assistant director of development. “We were actually just in touch with one of our recipients from the class of 2020. He’s currently a student at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, hoping to graduate in May 2024. And it was really nice to hear from him and hear how far he’s been able to go since the last time we spoke to him. And so it’s always really nice for us to hear those stories from those students that are still enrolled in school, still pursuing a higher education and just super excited and happy to come back and give back to the community that once supported them.”

Eligibility requirements and application details can be found on the Latinos Progresando website. Applications are open through April 10.
