Investigation Finds Pritzker Trust Includes Earnings from State Contracts: Better Government Association

A new report shows Governor Pritzker’s vast investment portfolio includes a dozen companies that earned billions of dollars in state contracts.

When he took office Pritzker promised to shift that portfolio into a blind trust, to eliminate conflicts of interest. But an investigation from the Better Government Association throws into question whether or not the move worked.

The report finds at least 12 cases where there are potential conflicts of interest. One of Prtizker’s largest partnerships is with Centene Corporation’s subsidiary Meridian Health Plan of Illinois, which has been paid $20.6 billion for Medicaid contracts, according to Better Government Association (BGA).

In response to this report and questions by BGA regarding the ethical nature of blind-trusts, Pritzker has responded with the following:

“As we have said numerous times and is made clear in the documents prepared by the attorneys, Governor Pritzker’s trust is blind … Yet again the BGA seems to be suggesting that because the governor is following the law, he is doing something wrong.”
