Vendors at Little Village Discount Mall Told Leases Will Be Extended Until January 2023

Vendors at the Discount Mall in Little Village may be breathing a sigh of relief tonight.

After worrying for months that they would be kicked out under a new owner, vendors at the shopping center have been given a short extension on their leases.

The news comes after vendors spent a good part of the last two years wondering about their future at the mall, which was purchased by Novak Construction in 2020.

Vendors have said that the company was not clear about its plans for the building’s future use. While Novak owns the property, two separate companies lease out space to 150 vendors inside the mall.

The final contract for one side of the building was set to end at the end of this month.

According to a Novak spokesperson, vendors have been given an extension on their leases until January 2023. After that, there’s going to be some type of month-to-month agreement.

“We are planning to make substantial improvements to the neglected property, including a new façade, a new roof, better parking, and other improvements. These investments will make a big difference on that stretch of 26th Street. Novak expects the work to start next year,” a statement from the company reads.

A representative for Novak also shut down rumors of a big box retail store taking over the mall and said Novak is in negotiations with the people who lease the building.
