According to Chicago Police Department data, 65 people were shot in 43 separate shootings between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday.

That included Tyshawn D. Crawford, a 16-year-old who was shot just after 6 p.m. Sunday in the 5900 block of South Indiana Avenue. According to police, Crawford was near a parking lot in that area when someone fired shots, striking the boy in the abdomen. He was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition, but later died. No one is currently in custody.

At approximately that same time, a 24-year-old man was killed in the 4400 block of West Roosevelt Road. He was inside a vehicle when someone shot him in the head and leg. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he died.

Earlier in the weekend, a 34-year-old man was killed early Saturday morning at a party in the 3700 block of West Fullerton Avenue. Police said the man was involved in a physical altercation just after 1 a.m. when someone pulled out a gun and shot him in the head.

One man was killed and two others were wounded as they were changing a tire early Sunday morning in the 3300 block of West Harrison Street. The men were working on their vehicle just after 3:15 a.m. when a person exited a dark SUV and fired multiple shots. A 30-year-old man was struck in the face and pronounced dead on scene. A second victim was shot seven times and hospitalized in critical condition, as was a third man who was also shot multiple times.

Approximately 10 minutes later, a 37-year-old man was fatally shot in the 5400 block of South Winchester Avenue. According to police, a second man got into a domestic altercation with a 25-year-old woman inside a home, but when the victim intervened, the man pulled a gun and fired shots. The victim was struck in the head and died on scene, while the woman was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to her armpit. No one is currently in custody.

A person was also fatally stabbed while on a CTA Red Line train near the 200 block of West 63rd Street just after 3 a.m. Monday. According to Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan, that person was with a group of seven individuals who attempted to rob a man on that train. But the man being robbed allegedly pulled out a knife and fatally stabbed one of those people.

According to Police Superintendent David Brown, the number of homicides in 2022 is down 15% compared to the same time in 2021, while shootings are also down 19%.

"Despite these decreases," he said during a press conference Monday morning, "we know we have much more work to do making our neighborhoods safe."
