32 People Wounded, 1 Killed in Weekend Shootings Across Chicago: Police

One person was killed and more than 30 others were wounded in weekend shootings across Chicago.

Chicago police said 33 people were shot in 26 separate shootings between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday. Two more people were killed in separate shootings early Monday morning and another man was wounded in a shootout inside a South Loop parking garage.

The lone weekend homicide occurred Saturday night in the 1100 block of North Lockwood Avenue. According to police, it appears two men exchanged gunfire in that area just after 8 p.m. A 25-year-old man was struck in the face and killed, while the second man, who is between 25 and 30, was struck in the torso and leg. He was hospitalized in serious condition.

Just after midnight on Monday, a 50-year-old man was shot and killed in a home in the 5600 block of South Morgan Street. Police said the victim was involved in a physical altercation with another man, who then produced a firearm and shot him in the chest. The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he died.

A 24-year-old man was fatally shot just before 2 a.m. Monday while walking his dog in the 5300 block of South Seeley Avenue. The man’s family heard gunshots and found him outside with gunshot wounds to his head, torso and leg. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

One man was wounded in a shootout in the 1100 block of South Delano Court just after 3:30 a.m. Monday. According to police, the man had driven into a parking garage, where he was followed by a black Jeep and a white sedan. Five men exited those vehicles and began shooting at the victim, who is a concealed carry holder and was armed himself. After an exchange of gunfire, the offenders fled the scene. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the right leg and a graze wound to the head. He was taken to Northwestern Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.
