Chicago’s urban canvas presents endless opportunities for artists to honor cultures, recognize history, and beautify communities through murals.  

Local youth arts organization Green Star Movement has installed murals in its signature bricolage style all over the city. This year, in a partnership with Amazon, Green Star is inviting Chicagoans to apply for a chance at getting a free mural created in their community. 

Green Star program director Jordan Taggart said community-based organizations are the target recipients of the free installation. 

“It could be a school, it could be a neighborhood that feels like a viaduct needs to be done, it could be a nonprofit that has a space that they need to beautify. We’re in the business of beautifying different spaces,” said Taggart. 

A panel of 12 young people from Chicago will select the winning application, collaborate on a design with the winner, and install the mural this summer.
