The Chicago Police Department released surveillance footage showing the moments before 59-year-old Rae Park was shot and killed by a male suspect at around 7 a.m. Wednesday in the 2600 block of West Catalpa Avenue.

In the video, Park can be see walking toward his parked van in an alley off the street. As he opens the door to get inside, a light-colored four-door sedan drives behind him and quickly pulls over.

A male suspect — who police said was wearing a dark hoodie with a light color logo, dark pants and white gym shoes — exits that sedan and walks toward Park and the van. The video does not clearly show the shooting, but police say a brief physical struggle between the men ensued and Park was shot.

He was taken to St. Francis Hospital in serious condition, but was later pronounced dead. Police said the suspect got back into the sedan and fled eastbound down the alley, then northbound onto Rockwell Street.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the CPD’s Area 3 Bureau of Detectives at 312-744-8261. Anonymous tips can also be submitted at cpdtip.com.
