The inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris was a heady, historical day, full of moments weighted with significance. But it also provided Americans with some much needed laughs.
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and his homespun, upcycled mittens (a gift from an elementary school teacher) won the day, comedically speaking, as the gift that kept on giving in the form of countless social media memes.
We may be biased, but Chicagoans had some of the best takes.

We can do classy, too. Sanders popped up in Georges Seurat’s “A Sunday on La Grande Jatte—1884,” a much loved painting in the Art Institute’s collection.

We couldn't resist getting in on the fun ourselves.
