It’s impossible to say at this point whether the drip of cancelations in 2021 will become a deluge, but organizations and institutions are already pulling the plug on events scheduled for early in the year.

Among the first to get the hook: the Chicago Botanic Garden’s Orchid Show

The show was to have opened in February, but the garden’s greenhouses are still closed to guests due to mitigations put in place to slow the spread of COVID-19. Along with the show, related programs including “Orchids After Hours” and the “Orchid Marketplace” have also been called off.

The show is expected to return in 2022.

The outdoor grounds of the Botanic Garden, the Garden Shop and the garden’s visitor center are open to the public daily. Pre-registration is required for timed entry.
