Gov. J.B. Pritzker closes schools for in-person learning for the rest of the year to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus. On Friday, Illinois reported an additional 1,842 cases and 62 deaths, bringing statewide totals to 27,575 cases and 1,134 deaths. While the governor said the state is bending the infection curve, we haven’t seen the infection peak yet. Meanwhile, Pritzker's not-so secret shipment of personal protective equipment from China may not be usable as other states report.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot slaps Hilco Redevelopment Partners with $68,000 in fines for the implosion of the Crawford Power Plant smokestack that sent a plume of dust over homes in Little Village. More than 141,000 file for unemployment in Illinois as a result of the stay-at-home order. Meanwhile, Pritzker collaborates with other Midwest governors to reopen economies in coordination to avoid a spike in infection.
