Exclusive Details on Chicago Teachers Union Plans

Chicago Tonight has learned that the Chicago Teachers Union plans to take a strike authorization vote in the schools next week. The CTU needs 75 percent of its members to approve a strike authorization vote.

School reform advocate Robin Steans, a key negotiator of the recent school reform legislation, says the vote contradicts the spirit of the reform legislation.

“I don’t understand how teachers could vote to authorize a strike before they have seen the package offered by the School Board,” said Steans.

CTU would neither confirm nor deny plans for a strike authorization vote.
