Chicago Human Rhythm Project: Global Rhythms
Featuring traditional Mexican, Spanish and African-American dances, the Chicago Human Rhythm Project celebrates its 22nd season. The Projects showcases a variety of rhythmic dance styles from the world over. This weekend’s performance includes Step Afrika!, the first professional dance company specializing in stepping, the Mexican Folkloric Dance Company of Chicago, Chicago’s oldest Mexican dance company and Ensemble Español Dance Theater, which specializes in flamenco, and more. Tickets range from $15 to $55. CHRP donates 50 percent of its proceeds to local non-profits.

Christkindlmarket
Tired of leftovers? Trade in your stuffing for some schnitzel at the 16th annual Christkindlmarket, a traditional outdoor market ushering in the holiday season, German-style.
The Christkind is a mythical elf-like being dressed in white and gold who is believed to brings presents to children in parts of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. With a golden crown atop her head, the official Christkind of Nuremberg has been welcoming visitors to Chicago’s market for the last 13 years.
The market features handmade gifts, accessories, clothing, and ornaments from more than 50 vendors. Marvel at meticulously detailed nutcrackers and clocks, and get into the holiday spirit with hearty German food and warming drinks. Free admission.

Sing-a-long Sound of Music
A Thanksgiving weekend tradition at the Music Box Theatre, this classic Julie Andrews musical returns to the screen with subtitles so the audience can join in. Take part in a vocal warm-up led by your host, and don’t forget your ‘magic moments pack,’ a complimentary bag of props to use during specific points in the film. For the costume-inclined, there’s also a dress-up competition to show off your sewing talents. Advance tickets are $12.50 for adults and $8 for children. Day-of tickets are $15 for adults and $9 for children.

ZooLights
Add a little sparkle to your weekend with the opening of ZooLights at the Lincoln Park Zoo! Nearly 2 million lights illuminate the way as you visit animals during extended zoo hours. Lighting displays in the figures of familiar animals move to festive music and brighten your day as you watch ice-carving demonstrations, let the kids partake in holiday crafts and visit Santa, all in one go.

An Iliad
Even if all you know about the Trojan War involves Brad Pitt, this one-man show starring Timothy Edward Kane will surely thrill. An Iliad adapts Homer’s epic poem about the 10-year Trojan War for the modern stage as a single actor channels the voice of the original poet. Learn more about the show.
