Maestro Riccardo Muti
Riccardo Muti did not expect to be the music director and principal conductor of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, or any other orchestra for that matter. After his much publicized split with the famed La Scala opera house in Milan, Muti said he would not take on another full time position. But after conducting a series of highly praised concerts with the CSO last fall, Maestro Muti decided that, at 66, he was too young to retire. Phil spoke with the CSO's music director designate yesterday at Orchestra Hall, and tonight we bring you that conversation.
Out and Proud in Chicago
It's a story of struggle and triumph that has largely remained untold. It's the history of Chicago's Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender community. Out and Proud in Chicago is a new documentary produced by Channel 11 that tells, for the first time on broadcast television, how gays and lesbians have been a vibrant and integral part of Chicago dating back to the 19th century. Phil talks to the documentary's producers, Alex Silets and Dan Andries.
